Doughnut Day

Last Saturday, I headed down to my sister, Faith's, to make
doughnuts. There is nothing like spending time with your
family and making doughnuts.
Days like these are when I miss my sister, Charity.
One day in heaven we will able to spend all kinds
of time together as sisters.

Austy, the glaze maker.

Big eyes and big bite.

Hold on to your doughnut Sawyer, it might get away!

He no longer 'winks' with two eyes.

After we were finished, I gave the boys their Saturday night bath.
I remember those days, mostly in the summer,
when the swimming pool was a bath tub and having to
take a bath and wash our hair was considered a crime.
I remember mom hollering up the stairs,
"Girls, did you wash your feet before you went to bed?"
We would jump out of bed and run to the sink
and 'rinse' them off as most kids do.

Blessings,
Hope

p.s. If you want our doughnut recipe, leave a comment.
Mom's doughnuts are the best!
I don't have it with me now, but if someone wants
it I would be happy to post it.

Trophy Hog

Here was the conversation the morning before he made the kill.

"Honey, come! There is a huge groundhog out here."
Josh runs to the window to look.
"I'm going to shoot him"
"But honey, he looks so happy, plus he could be Mr. Moore's pet."
"He is a rodent, and look he's digging holes under the barn"
"Honey, you better wait and ask Mr. Moore if you can shoot his ground hog."
So, Josh put down his gun.

Later that evening the groundhog was grazing again.
Josh couldn't take it any longer.
"Ca-boom!"
Josh runs out the door yelling, "Come and look!"
I wasn't that excited so I stayed in the warm house
Then he comes to the door and asks if I can take pictures.
I couldn't turn him down.

Sweet Potato Fries

This recipe happens to be a new favorite of mine.
This gives plain ol' sweet potatoes a new taste.
Spicy yet sweet in crispy sticks.

 Sweet Potato Fries

4 large, sweet potatoes cut into fries

Place in a gallon-size plastic bag. Add 2 Tbsp. of Canola oil.
Flip and flip bag until fries are coated.

Mix Together

1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper (scant if you don't like things hot)
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cumin
1/2 tsp. pepper
2 tsp. seasoned salt

Shake seasonings into bag and flip over and over
until fries are evenly coated.
Place onto a tray, making sure fries aren't overlapping.
Bake at 425 for 30 minutes, flipping them half way through.
Ovens may vary, just bake until they are
soft inside and crispy on the outside.

Dip in southwest sauce or ketchup.

p.s. Josh hates sweet potatoes, but he likes these.

Blessings,
Hope

Delayed

I haven't been able to post from home due to computer issues.
Last week my dad borrowed my laptop,
and this week we are working on setting up a new computer.
(Yay! No more slow uploading!)

I have photos to edit and order along with a
memory card full of untouched photos.

So all this post boils down to is an excuse for not posting.
I hope to return the blogging world real soon.

Not to mention, we are having pumpkin cheese cake
for dessert tonight. Sorry folks, no recipe or photos.

Hope

This is for you Cheri!

you could see some photos of Sawyer.

Chilly? Warm Up With Some Chili.

This is an excellent food to fix in the fall.
Just when it starts to turn cold, bring on the chili and corn bread.

As I was cleaning the house, I was trying to decide if I should
take the time to write down the recipe and as I made the soup.
It always takes longer, but then if it turns out you have the
exact recipe for the next time. So I decided I would whip
out the notebook and write down the ingredients as I went.
Here is what I came up with.

Chili

1 lb. hamburger, browned
1 quart of tomato juice
1 28 oz. can of diced tomatoes
1 16 oz. can of chili beans, undrained
1 15.5 oz. can of northern beans, drained
1/2 cup diced onion
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. seasoned salt
1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. cumin
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1/8 tsp. red pepper
1 Tbsp. corn starch*
*dissolve in a small amount of cold water

Simmer on medium heat for at least 20 minutes or longer.
Serve with corn bread.

Hope
